EMPLOYERS

Employer guide

We employ and support the apprentice. You provide the on-site training as a host. We handle the rest.

CoTrain, a programme delivered bCoTrain, a programme delivered by SECBE, employs the apprentice and manages all aspects of PAYE, payroll, tax and insurance, with all apprentices paid through SECBE. We enrol every apprentice with a suitable training provider and manage that relationship for you. Our team provides pastoral support to the apprentice and ongoing mentor support to your on-site team, so the day-to-day of employing an apprentice sits with us.

Contractors simply provide on-site training as a host.

How hosting works

Host a placement

Host an apprenticeship placement for an agreed period (minimum of 12 weeks), often for the duration of packages, getting the help you need only when you need it.

Hit training targets

Sharing apprentices helps you meet training targets that might otherwise be unachievable on shorter-term schemes.

Simple monthly recharge

You are invoiced a monthly recharge to recover the cost for the apprentices whose placements you are hosting.

“CoTrain makes my life a lot easier and less work for me when recruiting a new apprentice. I email the CoTrain team with my requirements and they then do the hard work of trying to find candidates for us. I also trust them that they know what sort of person I am looking for.”

Sally Kinchin, Wates Group

A free recruitment service

CoTrain provides a free recruitment service, recruiting and employing apprentices on demand and according to your specification, matching local talent to projects. Apprentices start placements fully aware of their responsibilities and expectations.

It may be an apprentice’s first placement, or we may propose an existing CoTrain apprentice, if available, who has already gained some site experience.

CoTrain conducts a three-stage recruitment process. The first level of screening assesses suitability for the apprenticeship programme, before we interview candidates and put them forward for interview with host contractors.

Candidates are supported during the recruitment process and coached for interview to give them the best possible chance of gaining a placement. Every apprentice commences their placement with:

  • A "pass" CSCS test
  • Basic tools
  • PPE
  • Travel allowance up to £25 per week

Training and ongoing support

CoTrain organises the apprentice’s college training, and our dedicated Apprenticeship Managers conduct regular 12-week reviews both on-site and at college to ensure continued progress and address any issues.

When a placement ends, you can either choose to retain the apprentice, or return them to CoTrain and ask us to provide a placement elsewhere.
